Schools in Michigan are REQUIRED to Educate Parents About Secure Firearm Storage
In 2024, Michigan passed a law entitled “Safe Homes, Safe Schools:” an instruction to school districts across the state to inform parents and caregivers about the importance of secure firearm storage. Building off of grassroots campaigns by groups like Be SMART who have asked for resources to be provided locally through school districts, information about Michigan’s secure storage law will now reach families statewide.
This law has the potential to reach thousands of parents and caregivers who would not otherwise have known how to securely store their firearm. However, the law passed with no implementation mechanism. It is up to us to make sure this life-saving information gets out to parents statewide.
